ITAC TENTH ANNIVERSARY TELEWORK CONFERENCE, SEPT. 4-5,
TO FEATURE NEW DATA ON NUMBER OF TELEWORKERS

Baltimore Event to Focus on "The Evolution of Telework: Lessons from the Past Empowering the Future"

WASHINGTON, Aug. 28, 2003

ITAC, the association for advancing work from anywhere, will hold its 2003 conference in Baltimore, Sept. 4-5, themed "The Evolution of Telework: Lessons from the Past Empowering the Future" and celebrating ITAC's tenth anniversary.  Presentations will analyze the changes in telework over the past decade and how those experiences translate into practical benefits for the future. At this conference the results of a 2003 national survey on the number of teleworkers in the U.S. will be presented for the first time.

Sponsors for the two-day public conference, to be held at the historic Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore, are the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA); the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM); The UPS Store; The Telework Consortium; and the Washington Metropolitan Telework Centers.

"As America begins another Labor Day weekend, it is important to realize that work practices have changed dramatically over the past decade for millions of workers and thousands of organizations. People from all sectors now work from anywhere, at any time.  This workplace transformation didn't just happen, but is the result of over a decade of evolution," said Tim Kane, ITAC President and President of Kinetic Workplace.  "ITAC has been right there all along, assisting and documenting these trends, and this year's conference will bring the telework community together to share important lessons we learned along the way."

Well-known telework consultant Gil Gordon of Gil Gordon Associates is chairman of ITAC's conference committee, which has developed an information-packed event.  Conference highlights include:

**A special telework seminar for federal employees only featuring a case tudy from the U.S. Postal Service and a federal update from OPM.
**A session on how telework has evolved in the past decade and how that evolution has influenced current practices featuring a special presentation by noted telework researcher Joanne Pratt.
**Organizational continuity - a panel will explore whether government and business are giving proper attention to continuity of their operations in response to natural and man-made disasters, and how telework can best be incorporated into a continuity and recovery plan. Panel includes Booz Allen and COOP Consulting.
**Virtual collaboration - a review of what tools and techniques are being used today to enable to work effectively from remote locations, and analysis of broadband's role in expanding telework. MCI and Telework Consortium will reveal their experiences in the private sector and federal government.
**Trends in HR: Is all work going to be outsourced or sent offshore?  Will there be a labor shortage in the near future?  Is the virtual workplace a given?  Are the United States and the rest of the developed world operating under the same pattern?  Do these trends affect the need for central office space? SHRM, the leading human resources association, will share their latest research and thinking.
**Networking and individual learning opportunities include a "Lunch With a Telework Expert" where attendees will join a table which will address their topic of interest and a Reception, where attendees can mingle with speakers, sponsors, and each other.

For more program details, or to register for the conference, go to http://www.workingfromanywhere.org. Registration fee is $455 for ITAC members and $555 for nonmembers.  Members of ITAC association partners SHRM, ACT and MWWLC can register at a special nonmember rate of $495. Registration is still available online and available onsite at the hotel.
